Believe me, a studio never changes the release date of a movie without any planning or intention. In fact, companies look throughout the year for the perfect period of the year to fit their productions, seeing how the marketing campaign will be and who they will compete with.
In this aspect in question, it is common for some giants like Warner, Universal and Disney to duel for the public’s attention, and, my friends, December 2022 promises quite a fight between two great films, or at least a giant that must be disturbed. .
Recently, the Warner Bros. announced a number of changes to its premiere schedule, one of which was ‘Shazam! Gods Fury‘, which was brought forward from June 2023 to December 16, 2022. That is, precisely the same date as the long-awaited premiere ‘Avatar 2‘.
There are those who say that Warner did it out of sheer provocation, but it is at the very least peculiar that the studio took the film to compete with a giant for free. A case like this means a sudden movement in the direction of bumping head-on against a blockbuster which defends the highest-grossing brand of all time.
Well, the 2009 film, directed by James Cameronis until today the biggest box office in the history of cinema, ahead of even the biggest hit in Marvel Studios‘Avengers: Endgame‘ (2019). We know that superhero movies are the big lode of the industry today, however ‘Avatar‘ remains an almost inexplicable phenomenon.
And to join in the fun, on Twitter, David F. Sandbergdirector of ‘Shazam! Gods Fury‘, expressed his eagerness to compete with ‘Avatar‘, posting an ironic tweet, to say the least: “Let’s face Avatar 2. Poor James Cameron must be shaking with fear”.
You know, I’d rather take my chances against Avatar if it means not having to rush VFX. It’s been 3 years and I’m still thinking about stuff like this: https://t.co/6srkCjaV6M pic.twitter.com/iaa1UI62lu

Here in Brazil, so much ‘Shazam! Gods Fury‘ how much ‘Avatar 2‘ will hit theaters on December 15th.
