After talking about the spin-off of ‘Game of Thrones‘, ‘House of the Dragon‘, which is currently being produced by HBO, George R. R. Martin once again used his personal blog to announce a new illustrated book set in the world of Westeros that will be released in October, ‘The Rise of the Dragon‘.
In it we have a “visual history” of House Targaryen, from its rise to power to the conquest of the Seven Kingdoms and its fall. The book features over 180 new illustrations, taking readers on another journey into the story of the fictional fantasy world. George RR Martin also mentioned that the new series will give readers a better understanding of ‘House of the Dragon‘, the prequel to the franchise.
“For those wondering: What is the difference between ‘Rise of the Dragon’ and ‘Fire and Blood’, think of the former as a reference book, in which Westeros’ most infamous family – and their dragons – come to life by the hands of amazing artists. The second was written as an account of the great events from and Aegon Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros to the infamous Dance of Dragons, the civil war that nearly tore apart Targaryen rule. Yes, ‘Rise of the Dragon’ will take place in the same time period, but it’s written in an encyclopedic style similar to ‘The World of Ice & Fire’. In fact, ‘The World of Ice and Fire’ authors Elio M. García Jr. and Linda Antonsson, came back to help with this book.”declared Martin.
In ‘The Rise of the Dragon‘, Morgan Rice begins what could become yet another brilliant series, which will take us to a fantasy world with trolls and dragons in a story of fight, honor, courage and trust in destiny. Morgan has once again managed to create strong characters that will have everyone cheering on every page.
Remembering what HBO is doing ‘House of the Dragon‘, a series that was conceived by George R. R. Martin e Ryan Condaland it will be about 300 years before the ‘Game of Thrones‘, showing the reign of House Targaryen in Westeros.

Check out the official synopsis of the book:
Centuries before the events of Game of Thrones, House Targaryen – the only family of dragonlords to survive the Destruction of Valyria – took up residence on Dragonstone. The story of Fire & Blood begins with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to chronicle the generations of Targaryen who fought to hold the seat, until the civil war that nearly destroyed their dynasty.
What really happened during the Dance of Dragons? Why was it so dangerous to visit Valyria after the Destruction? What were Maegor the Cruel’s worst crimes? These are some of the questions answered in this essential book, told by a wise maester of the Citadel.
