Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) knows that the mighty dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving to take control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he asks magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and a courageous Muggle baker on a perilous quest as they encounter fantastic beasts old and new and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with so many threats, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?
In an interview with Collider, Mads Mikkelsenwho was cast to play the new version of Gellert Grindelwald, spoke a little about attempts to replicate what Johnny Depp had built on the antagonist in previous forays, saying that copying him would be “creatively stupid”.
“No one is interested in trying to copy something, that would be immediate creative suicide, especially when it’s been done amazingly before. So everyone is waiting for us to take a different path. That said, we need a bridge between what [Depp] did and what I’m going to do, so those bridges we have to find together – which implies a certain look, certain attitudes in certain situations, but it has to be done in a unique way. Anything else would be creatively stupid.”
The cast also has Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Callum Turner, Jessica Williams, Richard Coyle e Maria Fernanda Candido.
David Yachts commands the project from a script signed by Steven Kloves e JK Rowling.
