According to THAT ONEGrammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Ciara was cast in the musical adaptation of the classic ‘The Color Purple’.
The artist will give life to the adult version of Nettie in the feature film. The youngest character will be played by Halle Bailey (‘The Little Mermaid’).
She also joins the previously confirmed Fantasia Barrino, Danielle Brooks, Taraji P. Henson, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Louis Gossett Jr. e David Alan Grier.
The production will hit theaters in December 20, 2023.
Lightning Bazawuleco-director of the acclaimed ‘Black Is King’assumes the direction of the project.
Marcus Gardley (‘The Chi’) penned the script, which features lyrics and songs from the acclaimed Broadway-winning musical.
‘The Color Purple‘ will be based on both the 2005 musical and the literary work of Alice Walker and in the cinematographic retelling of Steven Spielberg, starring Oprah Winfrey e Whoopi Goldberg.
The original feature, released in 1985, garnered 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.
The work will feature Spielberg, Winfrey and Quincy Jones in production. It is worth mentioning that the latter assumed the same role in the 1980s adaptation.
The musical version also brings Scott Sanders as a producer.
