In an interview with SlashFilmthe director Robert Eggers (‘The Witch’) expressed her desire to have the actor Willem Dafoe (‘Spider-Man’) in the lead role in the remake of ‘Nosferatu‘.
“’Nosferatu’ is a very important film for me. If the remake gets off the ground, I hope Willem [Dafoe] be the protagonist, because I love working with him.”
The duo previously worked together on the acclaimed horror ‘The headlight‘, which conquered 90% critical approval on Rotten Tomatoes.
Furthermore, Dafoe already played a version of Nosferatu in the movie ‘The Vampire’s Shadow‘ (2000), a meta horror that showed behind the scenes of the filming of the original feature.
It is worth remembering that, after unforeseen and delays, the filmmaker revealed that the remake may end up being cancelled: “I don’t know [sobre o status do remake]. This project has already fallen apart twice. Me trying to understand the situation, as it has already been leaked that Harry Styles would be in the movie. To be clear, he was going to play the Hutter, not the Nosferatu. I have been trying [tirar esse projeto do papel]but I’m starting to wonder if the FW Murnau ghost [diretor do longa original] is telling me I should stop.”
The production of the new version, which was supposed to be filmed in Prague, has already suffered several delays – including the departure of the Harry Styles of the cast, who left the project because of scheduling conflicts.
For now, just Anya Taylor-Joy (‘The Man in the North’) is confirmed in the cast.
Previously, Taylor-Joy had commented on starring in the new version of the classic: “My friends think I should get some rest, but I get very good role offers. I couldn’t turn down this movie. I prefer to do and give my best. Robert is a brilliant director as well as a wonderful human being.”
In addition to driving, Robert Eggers will also be responsible for the script.

‘Nosferatu‘ is an adaptation of the novel ‘dracula‘, from Bram Stoker, with characters’ names changed so as not to be sued by the writer’s heirs. The director was eventually sued for copyright infringement, and the court ordered the destruction of copies of the film. However, the film was recently restored and re-released (watch it below!).
The story follows Count Orlok, a vampire who falls madly in love with Ellen and brings terror to her town. ‘Nosferatu‘ is considered one of the first representatives of the horror genre in cinema. In 1979, he had a remake directed by Werner Herzog.
