According to Deadline, Matt Bomer (‘The Sinner’) to star in the channel’s new LGBTQ+ romance miniseries Showtimeentitled ‘Fellow Travelers‘, whose story will unfold over the course of several decades.
In addition to starring, Bomer will also serve as executive producer on the project.
Based on the book of Thomas Mallonthe production is being described as “an epic love story and political thriller, chronicling the volatile romance between two very different men.”
The plot will be followed by Hawkins Fuller (Bomer), who maintains a backstage career in financially rewarding politics. Hawkins avoids emotional entanglements – until he meets Tim Laughlin, a young man full of idealism and religious faith. They begin a romance just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on “sexual subversives and deviants”, beginning one of the darkest periods in 20th century American history. Over four decades, Hawk and Tim cross paths through the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s, and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, as they face obstacles in the world and in themselves.
