America Chavez will finally be introduced to the MCU in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ and will play an important role in the plot.
For those who don’t know, Chavez appeared for the first time in the hq ‘Vengeance’ #1launched in 2011, and won its own comic book series written by Gabby Riveraas of 2017.
Among his abilities are super strength and agility, as well as having the ability to teleport between multiple universes, which makes perfect sense for the sequel.
During an interview for the official website of Marvel, Xochitl Gomezthe heroine’s interpreter revealed some details about the character’s mission.
“The movie starts with America and a version of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) traversing what is known in the universe as the ‘gap junction space’. She is literally running for her own life, but she gets involved in something much bigger.”
She added that:
“Her journey also involves trust, because she has always been alone, running away, jumping from reality to reality. Part of her evolution is learning to trust others. In my view, she only trusts herself out of loneliness, as she has been alone for so long and is a survivor. She doesn’t know it yet, but her mission is also to allow others to help her become what she is capable of being.”
In an interview with Empire Magazinethe director Sam Raimi had also talked about the importance of Chavez in the film:
“Doctor Strange is still learning about the Multiverse, and there’s a character who has the ability to travel through it. He tends to be a know-it-all, so having him learn from a young girl is a smart decision.”
Remembering that the film arrives in Brazil on May 5, 2022.
